Dear Parent(s), Greetings! Welcome to the buoyant and jubilant month of August that fills our heart with joy, pride and a feeling of patriotism as it is the month which marks the celebration of Independence Day, Friendship Day, Muharram, Rakshabandhan and Janmashtami. The festive season is the most joyous time of the year. It is essential to teach the importance of festivals to our little ones. Let’s take a sneak peek into the month of “Amazing August” Theme: Plants and Land Transport Plants: Children learnt about the different types of plants along with the edible and non-edible parts of a plant. They recapitulated their knowledge on plants by visiting the school garden as well as the kitchen garden where they explored the different kinds of plants which are grown under and over the soil such as potatoes, onion, beetroot, mint leaves, brinjals, lady finger and many more. Land transport: Transportation is an important part of everyday’s life. Children must understand its importance and the rules pertaining to it. They were made aware of the importance of traffic lights, private and public transport, emergency vehicles, vehicles used in rural and urban areas, and railways through discussions, flashcards, and video demonstrations. Naturalistic Intelligence The educator introduced the concept of plants by taking the children to the garden wherein they dug the mud and planted the saplings with the help of the ‘School Gardener’. The other theme of the month was ‘Transport’. Transportation is the necessity of our lives. Children must understand its importance and the rules pertaining to it. They watched videos related to different means of land transport and road safety rules. The educator explained the topic in a fun way wherein the children recited the rhymes like ‘Red Light, Red Light’ and ‘Wheels on the Bus go round and round’…. and insisted upon following the traffic rules. The educator also apprised the children on the methods by which we can help in reducing the climate through discussions and activities. Activity (Best Out of Waste) was done to explain more about the prevention of pollution in the best way. Our young minds were enlightened on SDG 13: Climate Action. The educator also briefed the children about sustainable ways of commuting which includes walking, cycling, carpooling, use of green vehicles etc. to reduce traffic congestion and pollution. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence –English It is very important to enhance our children’s ability to use the letters and words effectively both while speaking and writing. Children were introduced to the letters ‘j’, ‘k’, ‘l’ and ‘m’ along with their related vocabulary words through stories and jolly phonics. They learnt the formation of these letters through tracing in a sand tray and using their index finger. Children also traced these letters using crayons/pencils in the related workbook pages. They practiced reading CVC words of vowel ‘a’ in their Verbal Linguistic Reader Books and also a few sight words: that, is, it, at, this, in, they, she, he, if, of etc. The children also recapitulated writing the letters- ‘a and b’ in the Linguistic notebook. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence – Hindi अगस्त के महीने में छात्रों को व्यंजन च, छ, ज, झ, और ट का परिचय करवाया गया। साथ ही साथ इन व्यंजन से शुरू होने वाले नए शब्द सिखाये गए जैसे ‘च’ से चमच्च, चाँद, ‘छ’ से छाता‘ज’ से जल ,झ’ से झंडा । कक्षा में हिंदी की पुस्तक में इन व्यंजनों से सम्बंधित कार्य करवाया गया और इन व्यंजनों से शुरू होने वाली वस्तुएं भी दिखाई गई। Logical Mathematical Intelligence Number sense is very important for the young learners because it promotes confidence and encourages flexible thinking. It allows children to create a relationship with numbers and understand that every digit has a value. Children learnt to count numbers from 1- 50 through actions. Children were also introduced to the following concepts, ‘What comes After (1-10)’, ‘What comes Before (1-5)’, concept of ‘Zero’ and concept of ‘Tens and Ones’ through various activities. They practiced writing numbers from 1- 13 as per the place value. Visual-Spatial Intelligence Visual Art Art is a creative therapy that uses all disciplines of art, visual movements, imagination skills, and finger dexterity. Children explored their aesthetic skills with the help of various colouring and craft activities. In the first week, children discussed various facts about plants and enjoyed leaf printing with their friends whereas in the second week they compiled cut-outs to make ‘Rakhis’ to celebrate ‘Rakshabandhan.’ Children enjoyed making a paper flute on the occasion of ‘Janmashtami’ and tricolour headgear on ‘Independence Day.’ Storytelling Stories help in achieving awareness and at the same time improve emotional intelligence. While listening and understanding the stories, children subconsciously develop the ability to think for others. This feeling of correlating and concerning for others, makes one a better individual. During the month, children enjoyed listening to the story, ‘What a ladybug heard’ followed by a related activity. Drama Drama is telling a story through actions and speech. It develops verbal and non- verbal communication skills, individual and group communication skills. Drama enhances creative abilities in children and gives them a better understanding of themselves and the world. In the month of August, children practiced delivering a particular dialogue in a variety of manner through voice modulation. They also enjoyed listening to a story, ‘Bunny and his favourite things’ and enacted the various modes of transport. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence Physical activities are crucial for the holistic development of young ones. The sports educator guided the children to perform various exercises such as side twist, front raise, knee up, upper body rotation, and knee balance, jumping jacks, knees up, body coordination and balancing sideways, opposite toe, tag games and kangaroo jumps. These activities not only strengthen children’s bones, muscles, hearts and lungs, but also improve children’s coordination, balance, posture and flexibility. Skating Skating helps to improve body balance and coordination. Our little Suncitizens have started to grasp the skills of balancing on wheels while bending, walking in a straight or zig zag line. Indian Music Children love music because it holds the power to express and bring a sense of joy into their lives. In this month, children practiced ‘Sangeet for all’ activities, vocal warm-ups, rhythm clapping, rail gaadi song and sang the patriotic song along with the educator. Western Music Exposure to music helps children to speak more clearly, develop a larger vocabulary, and strengthen their social and emotional skills. With the ongoing western music sessions, children practiced singing the song, ‘Do Re Mi’ with their friends. Dance Dance is an art that consists sequences of movement. It strengthens muscles, improves body balance, and increases flexibility. Dance increases cognitive development. During this month, the children attempted dance steps on Independence Day and Janmashtami special song. Pottery Pottery nurtures child's creativity, boosts their imagination, imbibes self- confidence, and promotes social skills. It also calms down the hyperactive mind and develops resilience and cooperation. Children sculpted an umbrella, a basket and a lollipop as a reinforcement activity. They also attempted to make Lord Ganesha's Idol on the occassion of Ganesh Chaturthi. EYP Play Area EYP play area is well-equipped with slides, swings, see-saw, sand pit, spring riders and so on. Here children chart their play activities by themselves, enhancing their incidental learning and promoting peer-to-peer interaction by playing on their favourite spots in the play area. Montessori Our little ones developed motor control, coordination, concentration, independence, and a sense of responsibility in a Montessori classroom. Children practiced the numbers 1-10 using the Number rods. They also practiced the concept of ‘Before and After’ using the number flash cards. Children practiced the formation of letter ‘Mm’ on the sandpaper card. This activity not only allowed the children to trace the letters, but also enabled them to feel the letter formations and identify their phonic sounds. Children made an attempt to read CVC words using the LMA box. Imaginarium The ‘Imaginarium’ teaches students to think out of the box, to utilize the resources, and to work as a team. Activities in the Imaginarium are used to reinforce lessons from the traditional classroom in a way that encourages students to work together, identify problems, and use their imaginations. The objective of an immersive environment is to engage and inspire students along with creating a sense of being transported to a different world. Our little Suncitizens were made aware about the different kinds of land transport used in urban and rural areas. Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday celebration- Show &Tell Birthdays are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy. Keeping up the high spirit, birthdays of the children born in the month of August were celebrated in the class. A ‘Show and Tell’ activity took place based on the theme, ‘Land Transport’ wherein the children waited for their turn to share their knowledge with friends and also imbibed the etiquettes necessary to attend a birthday party. Events and Celebrations 15th August 2021 Independence Day: “Freedom is never dear at any price. It is the breath of life. What would a man not pay for living”? - Mahatma Gandhi Suncitizens celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day with immense respect and strong patriotic feelings. Children attended the flag hoisting ceremony followed by the solemn notes of the National Anthem. They stood proud in their freedom fighter attire to greet the chief guest as he passed through the corridors of the EYP wing. Our young nationals learnt about the national symbols and enjoyed making a ‘Tri colour’ head gear. Janamashtami Assembly by KG D students It is essential that we teach the basic rituals and traditions to the children right from the foundational years. The Krishna Janmashtami festival marks the birth of Krishna, one of the most popular deities worshipped by the Hindus. The students of KG D hosted a special assembly on the eve of ‘Janmashtami’. Our kindergarten students apprised their friends with the significance of the festival through a beautiful enactment of the birth of Lord Krishna. The event concluded with a mesmerising dance performance by the students on the song, ‘Voh krishna hai’ followed by the National Anthem. Ganesh Chaturthi Assembly by Nur A students 'Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangal Moorti Morya' "Life is long as his trunk, trouble as small as his mouse and moments as sweet as his ladoos." Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!!!! Suncitizens of Nursery-A conducted a special assembly on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. The students apprised their friends on the significance of the festival and the importance of eco-friendly ways of celebrating the festival. Dance performance on the song, 'Shree Ganesha Deva’ added splendour to the entire assembly. Children received blessings from the ‘Head of our school’ and loved having ‘Motichoor Ladoos’ as the Prasad. Bodily-Kinaesthetic Event We put up a, ‘Bodily Kinaesthetic Event’ to give the students a chance to showcase their potential in sports. The event started with some thrilling warm-up exercises along with stretching of limbs from head to toe. Children participated with full zeal and enthusiasm. Their coordination and discipline were truly praise- worthy. They beautifully presented a few gross motor skills such as running, hopping along with a drill in the event. Their performance made everyone’s eyes twinkle with pride. Towards the end, they gave a round of applauds for themselves and were appreciated for their tremendous efforts.
