Theme: ‘Endangered Animals’, ‘Tiger’ and ‘Myself, Family and Friends’. The children learn the best from their surroundings and the environment. They love to do anything involving nature and the outdoors.Therefore, sensitizing students about nature at a young age is of vital importance.Therefore, the young learners of Suncity came close to nature when they learnt about Endangered Species of animals. They understood the difference between endangered and extinct species. They also explored the reasons for their extinction and planned some ways to contribute to the noble cause of animal welfare and conservation. They revisited the topics of ‘Tiger’ and ‘Myself, Family and Friends.’ Verbal Linguistic Intelligence-English To enhance the vocabulary and their linguistic intelligence, the children revisited three letter words with ‘a’, ‘e’, ‘i’ and ‘o’ as the middle sounds. They also learnt about ‘Sentences’ and practiced reading them with the help of sight words and jolly phonics. They also practiced writing of letters from ‘a to q’ in four lines. Sight words: is, it, in, if, of, to, his, him, her,that,at, this, for, they, she, he, we, our, your, me, my. PS: Kindly read the CVC words by its sound and not by the letter name. Kindly read the Sight Words with letter name and not by their sound. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence-Hindi The children were introduced to vyanjans ‘ स’ and ‘ ह’ and recapitulated all the vyanjans till ‘ष’ along with their related vocabulary words through picture cards. They played a fun game ‘Jadoo ka Pitara’ in which they took turns to pull out different objects from a magic box and then matched them with the related vyanjans. Following this, the children also attempted fun worksheets in their Hindi workbook.They thoroughly enjoyed singing the related vyanjan song. Logical/Mathematical Intelligence The educators took a recap of Number Names from ‘one to ten’ through matching cards activity. The students also revisited ‘quantification of numbers’ concept through counting real objects like pens, ice cream sticks, beads etc. and by playing a game ‘Passing the basket’. The concepts of ‘what comes in between, what comes after and what comes before’ were revised with the help of colourful number cards. They recapitulated the concept of ‘Missing numbers’ through number line Activity. Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday celebration Celebrations are a fun and important way for children, families and educators to actively learn about each other.Hence, all Nursery children who were born in the month of February had their birthday celebrations on Friday, 28th February. 2020. The children came prepared as their favorite endangered or extinct animal and presented a show ‘n’ tell activity in the class. They also enjoyed the dance party during their AV session. Other co-curricular activities Drama Children learnt about a variety of moods and facial expressions through different characters of the stories ‘Phoota Ghadaa’ and ‘Asali Maa’. They also learnt about different body postures to portray different characters. AV Audio Visuals help in the effective implementation of a lesson. Through AV sessions, the children learn and retain the concepts better and for longer duration. It leads to enhancement in students' critical and analytical thinking. Bodily Kinesthetic Intelligence Bodily Kinesthetic Intelligence techniques improve a child's ability to process information physically through hand and body movement. It also fosters body control and expression. It helps them to strengthen their gross and fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. So our little learners learned about the fitness skills through several activities:
EYP Play Area The children enjoyed free play in the EYP play area. It helped in the development of their gross motor skills, social-emotional well-being, and peer play skills. Dance Dancing is an excellent source of entertainment, laughter, and joy. The children strengthened their skill by dancing on the songs ‘Jai Ho’ and ‘Jungle Jungle Baat Chali Hai….’. Musical Intelligence Musical intelligence enables children to recognize sounds and tones with ease. They appreciate music and rhythm and can joyfully learn songs and melodies. Indian Music (Sangeet for all) Children delightfully played musical instruments – SwarTarang and Shakers. They practiced chanting ‘Om NamahShivaay’ and learnt a song ‘ HoliAai Holi Aai….’. Western music The children recapitulated all the songs learnt during their western music class. They sang the songs like ‘ God’s Love.., Dididi Dong…., Praise him…, FelizNavidad…, Clock Song…, Who has seen the wind..?and Doe a deer a female deer…..’ Library To improve focus and concentration, the children were asked to undertake a self-reading session in the library. The educator also narrated different stories to our young learners like ‘You, Me and Empathy' and ‘My Even Day’. Montessori The children performed the following activities in the Montessori lab:
Pottery The children were super excited to make the clay models of ‘heart shaped pendant’ for Valentine’s week, ‘trident’ for Shivratri and ‘haathi’ for revisiting the vyanjan ह. Storytelling To encourage active participation and to promote the use of imagination and creativity, storytelling sessions were conducted by the educator wherein an inspiring story was narrated to the young ones ‘When I grow up’ The young learners were fascinated to know about different professions that they can opt from like Astronaut, Veterinary and Scientist etc. They also attempted a related worksheet wherein they drew and colored the picture related to their favorite profession. Tab Kids The children were delighted to do the following activities on their respective tabs:
Visual Spatial Intelligence The children developed their fine motor skills and increased finger dexterity by making the various crafts. They thoroughly enjoyed making the craft of ‘Panda’ as an endangered species of animal.They enhanced their aesthetic skills by making the craft of ‘Om’ on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. They also loved to make a ‘Photo Frame’ with popsicle sticks as a culmination art activity for the month. Events and Celebrations Annual Day ‘VERVE’ Verve 2019-20 1st Annual function of Suncity 37D commenced with the glitz and glamour of spectacular music and dance performances followed by a theatrical adaptation of the 'Jungle Book' The event began with a harmonic musical rendition of 'The Million Dreams'. The play, keeping the charm of the classic tale had its twist to it reiterating the significance to conserve nature. The students of class Nursery enthusiastically participated in the Annual Day. This helped them to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behavior in groups; to have confidence in their abilities. The mesmerizing grand finale had students dance to the rhythmic tunes of the song- 'Love Song to the Earth’ that conveys the message of nurturing nature. Shivratri
The children learnt about the Hindu festival of Maha Shivaratri. They understood the importance of this special day and made the crafts of ‘Om’ and a trident. They were told that once a year in late winter and before the arrival of Summer, marks Maha Shivaratri which means "The Great Night of Lord Shiva" and signifies Shiva’s marriage with Parvati. The students of KG C presented a wonderful assembly to celebrate the festivities of Maha Shivratri. They spoke about the significance of this special day when Lord Shiva tied a knot of togetherness with Goddess Parvati. They were delighted to chant the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivay’ and purified their mind and body. While expressing their gratitude towards Lord Shiva, they also gave a message to the audience to visit the temple on this gracious day and educated them about the way of taking Prasad.
