Dear Parent(s), Greetings! After a fun-filled summer break, the children were welcomed back to school as we commenced with another month of innovative learning and growing. Take a sneak peek into the month of ‘Joyful July’ THEME-Plants The theme – 'Plants' was introduced to the children where they were shown a real plant. They explored and identified different parts of a plant. Educators promoted the fact that parts of a plant include roots, stem, leaves, flowers and fruits. Children were made aware that every part of a plant works in coordination and performs various functions. They also got acquainted with the importance of each part of a plant. The root anchors the plant in the ground and stem supports the plant above the ground. Leaves make food for the plant. The concept was taught with the help of various hands-on learning activities and visual resources such as PowerPoint Presentations (PPT), flashcards and educational puzzle. The educator also explained the process by which different plant species grow from a single seed into a plant through ‘Seed Germination Activity’. Educator showed some products like oil, pulses, cotton, medicines, paper, pencil etc. and asked children to think about the source of these things or where do we get these things from? Children acquired knowledge about the fact that humans and animals are dependent on plants for food and shelter. Children were made aware that plants need sunlight, air, water, soil and care to grow. Naturalistic Intelligence- The educator explained the parts of a plant, how a plant grows from a seed to a tree and what it needs to grow. A seed germination activity was carried out in the class as an experimental learning activity to reinforce the learning of this topic. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence Linguistic intelligence enhances or improves the students’ ability to understand language. It can only be achieved with regular practice -verbally and written. It is of utmost importance for a child to identify letters and learn their correct phonic sounds. The educator reiterated upon the identification, formation, phonic sounds, and vocabulary words of the letters from a-e to enhance the students’ vocabulary. The children learnt letters from ‘f’ to ‘i’; along with their related vocabulary words through stories and jolly phonics. They also learnt the formation of these letters. Sight words act like connectors. Some sight words were also introduced such as, ‘in, at, it, is, I, me’ with the pictures for easy recognition and their use in everyday sentences. Logical Mathematical Intelligence: Our little mathematicians learnt, how to master the relationships between numbers and understood how quantities relate to one another. In this month, they recapitulated the shapes like rectangle, square and triangle. They were introduced to new shapes like pentagon and hexagon. Class educator reiterated that pentagon has 5 sides and hexagon has 6 sides through video demonstrations. Children enjoyed recapitulating the ‘Pre-Number Concepts’ like ‘big and small, ‘heavy and light’, ‘tall and short’,’more and less’. They learnt to identify numbers 5,6,7 and 8 through quantification and learnt formation of numbers through various activities. They also understood numbers on the number line. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence: Bodily-kinesthetic is a learning style often referred to as 'learning with the hands' or physical learning. It is defined as fine and gross motor skills, dexterity or agility, eye/hand coordination and balancing body. Skating: Children have started to grasp the concept of balance on wheels. They have been successfully doing the walking exercises. Western music: ‘Fun, Fabulous, Uplifting and Magical’. These are just a few words that describe music together. Our music sessions provide a comfortable and engaging environment for the children and strengthen their memory. Children practiced singing the song, ‘This is the day that the Lord has made’. Indian music: Children performed vocal warm-ups which helps to prepare the children for the intense variations that come along with singing. They enjoyed singing sa re ga , railgaadi song etc. Dance: Dancing stimulates the mind, body & soul. It increases cognitive strengths and prolongs life; that is the miracle of dance.’ Dance is a beautiful form of art that helps us express ourselves and promotes growth as well as enjoyment. A ‘Show and Tell’ activity took place based on the theme ‘All about Plants’, wherein the students waited for their turn to share the knowledge with friends and also imbibed the etiquettes to be adopted while attending a birthday party. Visual-Spatial Intelligence Visual Art: Spatial awareness and spatial relations encourage creativity and imaginative thinking in the children. It also motivates them to think out of the box. Children were delighted to make various ‘letter crafts’ such as letter g,h and i. They also enjoyed drawing parts of a plant as part of their monthly theme. Story Telling Story telling refers to describing ideas, beliefs, personal experiences and life- lessons through stories that evoke powerful emotions and insights. It creates an immersive experience that allows young learners to learn the language in a dynamic and entertaining way. The children were fascinated to listen to the story- ‘Friend’ and ‘The Foolish Timid Rabbit’ with appropriate props, expressions and voice modulation. Drama A drama is telling a story by means of dialogue and actions to be performed by the actors. It develops verbal and non- verbal, communication skills. Drama enhances students’ creative abilities and gives them a better understanding of themselves and their world. With this aim in mind, stories like ‘शेर और चूहे’ were told to the children to enhance their verbal and non-verbal expression of ideas with appropriate expressions and voice modulation. Pottery The children enhanced their sensorial and fine motor skills by making a fruit using play dough. They also created the letter g, number 8 and pots with clay as a reinforcement of classroom learning. EYP Play Area Children always love free play and peer to peer interaction. They used their freedom of choice to play on slides, swings, sand-pit and on their other favourite spots in the EYP play area. Montessori Montessori teaching helps in building self-confidence and self-esteem in children. Our little ones develop motor control and coordination, independence, concentration, and a sense of responsibility in a Montessori classroom. Children practiced the formation of letters from “F f till I i” on the sand paper. This activity not only allowed the children to trace the letters, but also enabled them to feel their pattern and identify the phonic sounds. They also had a lot of fun demonstrating a Montessori activity wherein they used tongs to transfer the objects from one container to the other. Imaginarium Play Builds Imagination and Creativity and also foster children’s curiosity to learn through fun. Our little Suncitizens were super excited to explore various fun playing stations in Imaginarium like transport corner, supermarket stations and making various structures with Lego. Children get hands-on experience of real-life activities through these tools. They explored various corners like the Lego table, mini gym, and small world play tables. They identified different shapes through lego blocks and recognized square and rectangle shape objects around them. They also took pleasure in counting different objects as a part of their learning. Water Play ‘Water Water all around, Splash Splash on the ground’ Water play is the most important part of the preschool curriculum as it helps to develop and strengthen children's gross and fine motor skills along with vocabulary development. Water play is a fantastic way for kids to cool off on a hot, sunny day as well as learn some valuable skills. Our Nursery children had a wonderful time during their water play activity. They thoroughly enjoyed playing in water fountain, splashing and sprinkling water on their friends.
