Dear Parent, (s) Greetings! Let’s glance through the month of ‘Dazzling December’. “Be grateful for the home you have, knowing that at this moment, all you have is all you need.” -Sarah Ban Breathnach To help our students understand the importance of different kinds of homes we introduced ‘Homes’ as the theme of the month. The following topics were covered under this theme: ● The children were introduced to the different kinds of homes of the insects like bees living in beehives, ants living in underground tunnels, and cricket living in green bushes, etc. ● They enhanced their knowledge about the different types of houses such as ‘The Kutcha house and Pucca house’, ‘Igloo’ and ‘Tent houses’, tepees, houseboats, and stilt houses. ● The students attempted a freehand drawing of their own houses to get a hands on experience. ● The students were also apprised of the term ‘Bird Feeder’, wherein they made a bird feeder along with the educator using a recycled plastic bottle and grains. ● Different kinds of birds and their nests were also explained by the educator through a PPT like a tailor bird, a woodpecker, a flightless bird, a hummingbird, an ostrich, and a lily trotter bird. Naturalistic Intelligence Naturalistic intelligence refers to a person’s interest in the ‘Natural’ world of animals, plants, and the natural world around them. Individuals with naturalist intelligence have a sensitivity to and appreciation for nature. Our little Suncitizens went out for a nature walk wherein they saw insect homes, birds, butterflies etc. They also focused on conserving the environment through various ways using eco friendly material. They used old newspapers and made one paper bag to reduce the usage of polythene bags. Our little ones also made one craft activity for the festival 'Christmas' using eco friendly material. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence - English Children were engaged in all aspects of language arts as they developed their oral language skills and began to read and write. They learnt to recognize and write the letters from 'X to Z’ in the workbook and also learnt the sounds these letters make. Our little enthusiastic learners were also introduced to the middle sound of vowel ‘i’ through CVC words. They were taught to read and write, from left to right and from top-to-bottom through their English reader book. A few sight words were recapitulated and new sights words such as, in, is, the, an, and, had, he, on were introduced to the children through a PowerPoint Presentation. Logical Mathematical Intelligence The children learnt to draw numbers from 11 to 20 on the abacus along with the writing practice in their notebook. The concepts of ,’What comes Before‘, What comes After’ and ‘What comes in Between’ were also taken up with the help of number line. Children enjoyed the same and practiced in their workbooks. Our little mathematicians were able to identify, quantify, and write numbers from 25 to 28 under the concept of tens and ones through number slider and writing practice in the workbook. The children did oral counting from 1 to 80. Storytelling To encourage our young learners to use their imagination and creativity, storytelling sessions were conducted by the educator. It helps in enhancing their social and interpersonal skills. The children were fascinated to listen to the story- ‘Gruffalo’s Baby’ with appropriate props, expressions, and voice modulation. Drama Drama is a written work that tells a story through action and speech and is meant to be acted on a stage. In the month of December, our children enjoyed the enactment of the story, ‘Rudolf – The Red Nose Reindeer’. I also enjoyed the activity of decoding the language, 'Beans'. Visual Spatial Intelligence Visual Art Visual art helps children represent their thoughts, and skills and also help them explore their innate artistic skills creatively. The month started with a splash of colours where children coloured the maple leaves which they made during the clay session followed up by a ‘Nest Craft’ in the next week integrated into the concept of birds and their habitats using twigs and straws. The third week commenced by preparing an igloo craft where the children learnt about types of houses. The month was culminated with ‘Christmas celebrations and preparation of ‘Christmas Craft’ where children made their own christmas trees and decorated them. Clay Modelling Clay has a naturally relaxing quality. Working with clay integrates mental, emotional, and kinaesthetic brain functions. This time children created an autumn leaf and a cute fish. To integrate clay modelling with learning ‘Vyanjan’ ‘य’, our young artists sculpted a vehicle (यान). Montessori Beginning at an early age, Montessori nurtures order, concentration, and independence. Intentional classroom design, materials, and daily routines support the students’ emerging ‘Self-Regulation’, the ability to educate one’s self, and to think about what one is learning, in toddlers. This month children were introduced to the below given practical life experiences to enhance their Intrapersonal Intelligence: ● CVC booklets- Children attempted to read the vowel ‘I’ and ‘CVC’ words from CVC booklets. ● Recap of letters ‘A-Z’ LMA box- The educator reiterated upon the sounds and the formation of the letters through the LMA box. ● Sand Paper letters ‘X’ and ‘Y’- Children enhanced their understanding of the formation of the letters ‘X’ and ‘Y’ by tracing them on sandpaper material. Imaginarium ‘Imaginarium’ is a place where children can ignite their imagination. Our little ‘Suncitizens’ explored various stations such as the ‘Kitchen Station, ‘Supermarket Station’, ‘Lego Station’, and the ‘Transport Station.’ They also explored sensory tables wherein they differentiated the rough and smooth objects. They also enjoyed making a house using different shapes in the ‘Imaginarium Lab.’ Musical Intelligence “He who sings frightens away his ills.” – Miguel De Cervantes Music helps students expand their minds and increase their self-confidence. It serves a greater purpose in our lives than simply providing amusement. Great scientists like Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Einstein were also fond of music. By combining teaching and music, educators can help students increase their memory, concentration and academic performance. Western Music Students who have early music training, naturally develop their language skills and reasoning abilities. Music stimulates children’s emotional and cognitive abilities and allow their brain to think in a new and different way. Children along with the educator merrily sang the most peppy and much loved Christmas carol, “Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer.” Their keenness to learn the lyrics of the song was noticeable. Dance Dance is the confidence of moving body rhythmically to a piece of music. It is a freedom of expression and an act of transforming time into motion. Dance signifies joy and celebration too. In the month of December, Nursery children have practiced dance steps on 'Don't worry be happy' and 'Jingle Bells' song. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence Bodily Kinaesthetic activities make children aware of physical competence. It helps develop an active and a healthy lifestyle. Children along with the educator performed various health-enhancing physical activities such as dragging a ball between the cones, throwing a ball, shuttle run using the ball, skipping using hoola hoop, passing the cone through a relay race etc. Playing fire in the mountain game was a lot of fun. EYP Play Area We strongly believe in keeping our kids active, healthy, and happy. A playground is a different tool of education altogether. Besides the game, it teaches team spirit, determination, focus, and management. The Play Area at Suncity is very carefully designed as per the requirements of the age of the children. These playsets provide an opportunity to engage in dozens of fun games that develop physical skills and improve imagination and cooperation with peers. Skating Skating is fun and also a great source of exercise. It improves a child's balance and coordination. Our little ‘Suncitizens’ have started to grasp the skills of walking and sliding in straight and zigzag lines. They have started doing the simple sitting and also relay race wherein they pass on the claps to their friends. Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday celebration- Show & Tell It gives immense joy to our little ones to be a part of birthday celebrations. Hence, all Nursery children born in December had their birthday celebration on Friday, 22nd December 2022. The theme for the celebration was 'Christmas.' Children showcased their oral skills through a 'Show & Tell' activity. They were excited to speak their lines and were ready with their props. Children reiterated the basic etiquettes of how to behave at a party. Events and Celebrations Christmas A special assembly was held on the occasion of Christmas. The students of Pre-Nursery – B shared a few details about the festival, highlighting the real meaning of Christmas i.e., being kind and generous towards others. They also performed a dance on the song, “Jingle bells”. KG - C assembly on universal value, 'Gratitude' As an age old saying says that “All that glitters is not gold”, the real gold shines within us in the form of various moral values and one of them is gratitude. On this note, the students of KG C presented a wonderful assembly on 2nd December 2022 on the topic ‘Gratitude’. The assembly commenced by paying gratitude to the five elements Fire, Air, Earth Water and Space through PE drill. The children also dramatized a splendid skit on the story ‘King Midas and the Golden Touch’ to demonstrate the importance of family, friends and nature and how one should be grateful for them. The skit was followed by a mesmerizing dance performance. Children were appreciated for their spectacular performance and apprised everyone on the significance of gratitude and how it brings joy and happiness in our lives. KG - D assembly on universal value, 'Empathy' Empathy is the ability to understand things from another person's perspective. It's the ability to share someone else's feelings and emotions and understand why they're having those feelings. Students of class KG D presented a beautiful assembly on 23rd December 2022 on the topic ‘Empathy.’ The assembly comprised a very interesting skit “Caterpillar lost his shoe” that showcased the children's talent and effectively conveyed the message that Empathy is one of many skills that help us build better relationships. When we resonate with people’s feelings, consider their perspective, or feel compassion for them, we are more likely to be generous and altruistic. It was followed by an enthralling dance performance by our little ones. As one of the parents mentioned “We all know this word but we fail to put ourselves into someone else’s shoes. So, let’s imbibe this Universal value within ourselves – LET’S BE EMPATHETIC towards all living beings Joy of Giving (Project Uphaar) 'Discover the Joy of Giving and you will discover the reason for living'. As a part of the Project Uphaar initiative taken by Suncity, the little ones were encouraged to donate any one item of the woollen clothes (jacket, pullover, socks or shoes) to help the underprivileged people stay warm this winter. Suncitizens believe in learning by doing and we learnt the universal values of being kind and compassionate through these little initiatives to make the world a better place. LEAP Learn > Engage > Acquire > Perform Think beyond the magic and get beyond the imagination! To unleash the creativity of our children we conduct LEAP activities each month wherein children perform various brainstorming tasks to enhance their higher-order thinking skills and ingenuity to be future - ready. Below are the activities performed by the students this month: ● Pattern drawing- Children made different kinds of patterns with the help of the coding given as per the letters A- Sun B- Flower C- Ball They were later asked to create patterns of pictures as per the coding given by the educator such as BCA, ACB, etc. ● Leap Age - Children were shown two pictures of their growth, one when they were a baby and the other as big kids. They were asked various questions in terms of their activities and hobbies to understand the difference between the age. ● Pattern Movements - Children were shown different gestures for the given pictures Sun- clap, Ice cream- nodding the head, Flower- blinking of eyes Children brainstormed by exploring different patterns randomly. ● Magnetic Maze - Students were introduced to the terms ‘magnet’ and ‘steel’ and were given a maze wherein they were supposed to help Mrs. Duck to reach her ducklings using a way that has a lock and key that sticks to the given magnet. ●Creative Impressions - Children discovered the artists within themselves and made wonderful paintings using fork impressions.
