Dear Parent(s), Greetings! Let’s glance through the month of ‘Delightful December’. Theme: Homes “There is nothing like staying at home.” – Jane Austen The kids were acquainted with the dwellings of insects and birds, and they gained knowledge about various types of homes and other interesting facts. Homes play a crucial role in fostering emotional well-being by providing a space for personal expression, relaxation, and bonding. During December, our students were introduced to the following topics related to homes:
Verbal Linguistic Intelligence –EnglishEnhancing English language skills involves developing speaking, reading, grammar comprehension, vocabulary growth, spelling, effective time management, organizational abilities, and analyzing written content. This month, children engaged in diverse language-based activities to boost their verbal-linguistic intelligence:
Logical-Mathematical IntelligenceThe children acquired the skill of representing numbers 11 to 20 on the abacus, coupled with writing exercises in their notebooks. Exploring the concepts of "What Comes Before," "What Comes After," and "What Comes In Between" was facilitated using a number line. The children enthusiastically practiced these concepts in their workbooks. Our budding mathematicians extended their understanding by identifying, quantifying, and writing numbers ranging from 25 to 28, applying the concept of tens and ones through the use of a number slider and workbook exercises. Additionally, the children engaged in oral counting, covering numbers from 1 to 80. Naturalistic Intelligence Being natural means enjoying the outdoors, exploring nature's wonders, and appreciating the simple joys around us, like colorful flowers, chirping birds, and the magic of the natural world. In the first week, a discussion on seasons was conducted with the Suncitizens. Seasons, nature's ever-changing symphony, unfold with the blossoms of spring, the warmth of summer, the vibrant hues of autumn, and the tranquil beauty of winter, weaving a perpetual dance of renewal and transformation. In the second week, little ones created buzz-worthy moments with a beehive craft that combined creativity and nature-inspired fun, transforming simple materials into a hive masterpiece. In the third week, a discussion was held on a bird feeder, wherein a plastic bottle was repurposed as an eco-friendly bird feeder, merging sustainability with avian hospitality. In the last week, the Christmas celebration was discussed with the children, wherein they learned that Christmas is a special time when families come together, exchanging gifts, sharing laughter, all while enjoying delicious treats and the festive spirit. Visual-Spatial IntelligenceVisual-spatial learning refers to a person's ability to observe, analyze, and understand visual information in their environment. Visual-spatial learners may think in images and pictures rather than in words, and they typically learn holistically rather than sequentially.
StorytellingIn the first week, children participated in “The Mixed-up Chameleon” activity, where they chose their favorite color and drew five things using that color. In the second week, they listened to the first half of the story "The Bad-Tempered Ladybird" (a story about insects). The third week featured "Dream snow", a Christmas story about a farmer who loved his farm animals so much that he gave them all a Christmas gift as a token of love. The last week included the second half of "The Bad-Tempered Ladybird" story. MontessoriMontessori "Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world." – Maria Montessori The principal purpose of Montessori education is to develop the child's natural thirst for knowledge, cultivate a sense of order, nurture functional creativity, boost self-confidence, and, importantly, help develop structure, independence, and confidence in learning. In December, our students took delight in expressing the art of greeting and welcoming guests, setting the stage for their upcoming play on Annual Day with practiced dialogue delivery. Bodily Kinaesthetic IntelligenceEngaging in bodily kinesthetic activities fosters children's recognition of their physical abilities, contributing to the cultivation of an active and healthy lifestyle. Together with educators, children participated in a range of physical activities aimed at promoting health, including hurdling, navigating agility sticks with zig-zag walking, throwing balls, shuttle running with a ball, and skipping with a hula hoop. SkatingSkating is fun and also a great source of exercise. It improves a child's balance and coordination, while also helping build muscle strength and flexibility. Our little suncitizens have started grasping the skills of walking and sliding in straight and zigzag lines. They have also begun participating in simple sitting activities and engaging in relay races. Musical IntelligenceIt helps the body and the mind work together. Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. Music also helps strengthen memory skills in children. Indian MusicChildren enjoyed participating in the 'Sangeet 4 All' activities and learned to play the'Shaker'instrument. In preparation for December festivities, nursery children rehearsed dance steps to the tune of the 'Feliz Nevidad' song. PotteryClay possesses an inherent calming nature, and its manipulation engages the mental, emotional, and kinesthetic aspects of the brain. During this session, children crafted an autumn leaf and an adorable fish using clay. In a fusion of clay modeling and language learning, our budding artists sculpted characters associated with the Hindi consonants: य for यान (vehicle), र for रूपया (rupee), and ल for लट्टू (top). ImaginariumImaginarium’ is a place where children can ignite their imagination.
