Dear Parent(s), Greetings! It has been a wonderful beginning to the new session! Four weeks have just flown by … Our yearly theme is 'Srijan' means 'Creation'. Creation is the action or process of bringing something into existence. This year's theme is dedicated to nurturing the creativity of our learners. Each child is a creator and has the potential to grow, develop and evolve. Let's take a sneak peek into the days gone by... THEME-Me and Myself The theme – 'Me and Myself' was introduced to the children where they got to know about themselves. Educators promoted the fact that each one of them is unique and different in their own way.
Naturalistic Intelligence:The Sustainable Development Goal integrated with the monthly theme was, SDG-3;’Good health and wellbeing’. Children experienced the importance of using soap through the ‘Soap and Pepper’ experiment wherein they learnt about how they can keep away the germs through the application of soap. The educators also sensitized the children on how they need to take care of their sense organs. An activity was conducted that emphasized how healthy food and a good diet help the body grow well and fight against diseases. The educator explained the concept of a ‘Family’ by creating and explaining the ‘Family Tree’. Verbal Linguistic IntelligenceLearning a language enables children to discover their potential to communicate and express themselves. Literacy skills such as tracing sleeping lines, standing lines, and slanting lines using crayons and through hands-on activity helped the children to work on their pre-writing skills. Children recognised the letters ‘a’, ‘b,’ ‘c’,d and e ’’ with the help of stories, phonic sounds through jolly phonics song, and their related vocabulary words. The formation of the letters was demonstrated and practiced with the use of crayons, air tracing, and sand letter cards. Logical /Mathematical IntelligenceNumber sense, or the basics of learning about numbers, is the first vital math skill. During this month, children learnt recognition of numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 through audio-visual, rhymes, tracing activities and quantifying concrete objects available around them, counting their body parts, etc. Few Pre-number concepts were also introduced such as 'Big and Small', 'heavy and light', and 'tall and short' through concrete objects. Learning about shapes is always fun for them. Children were familiarized with different shapes that they see around such as a square, a rectangle and a triangle. These shapes were introduced with the help of real objects. Verbal Linguistic Hindiअप्रैल और मई के महीने में छात्रों को हिंदी में बोले जाने वाले शब्दों का परिचय करवाया जैसे - सुप्रभात, महोदया जी, कक्षा, छात्र, दिनांक और स्वागत। साथ ही साथ हिंदी में कविता 'आलू बोला मुझको खालो' तथा कहानी 'प्यासा कौवा' सिखाई गई। Bodily- Kinesthetic Intelligence"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity." - John F. Kennedy Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence is defined as fine and gross motor skills, eye/hand coordination, dexterity or agility, balance, and body awareness. So, our little learners acquired an array of skills through the following fitness games. Skating: As roller skating is the perfect way to combine fitness with fun. The coach helped children develop the skill of walking with the skates on. Students learnt to balance their bodies. With the safety gears intact, they were not scared to fall. Physical Education: During the months of April and May, children along with the educator learnt about the manipulation skills wherein they practiced kicking, bouncing, catching, throwing, lifting and dribbling exercises. Musical IntelligenceWestern music: Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything." ---Plato Children naturally love music! Whether it is soft and soothing or a lively tune. The educator introduced multiple musical instruments (Guitar, drum, Casio) along with the rhythm of the drum beats. The children sang the song, ‘God’s love’ and “ Praise Him” along with the educator. Indian music: Indian classical music creates a spiritual link and helps the students stay connected with the roots of Indian culture. It broadens communication skills and helps the students depict their emotions. 'Sangeet for All' is the first Indian music curriculum with a carefully researched pedagogy, methodology, and resources that provides young children with a solid foundation in music. This month the children practiced singing the following songs: -
Dance: Body movements through dance are learnings that communicate messages and represent actions, which help, develop fine and gross motor skills, and social skills improve balance and coordination. Children had great fun learning steps on the following songs: ‘Bum Bum Bole, Masti Mein dolein’ ‘I love my mommy’ ‘Walking in the jungle’ songs alongwith a few warm-ups exercises. Interpersonal IntelligenceBirthday celebration: Show and Tell Birthday is one of the most special days for everyone and if celebrated with friends it becomes memorable. A “Show and Tell” activity took place based on the theme, ‘Healthy and Junk food’, wherein they waited for their turn to share their knowledge with friends and also imbibed the etiquettes to be adopted while attending a birthday party. Visual- Spatial IntelligenceVisual Art: Art is a creative therapy, which uses all disciplines of art; Visual movements, imagination skills, aesthetic skills, and finger dexterity. Children explored aesthetic skills with the help of these various colouring and craft activities. Making a welcome card on the first day was a lot of fun. The educator encouraged the children to show various emotions like -happy/sad/excited/angry based on different situations. The children enjoyed drawing their emotions. Learning letters through visual art adds to the fun. Children showed a keen interest in doing fingerprinting to make ‘a’ for ant, ‘b’ for butterfly in the month of April and ‘e’ for elephant along with mother’s day craft in the month of may. Co-scholastic domainsStory Telling To encourage our young learners to use their imagination and creativity, storytelling sessions were conducted by the educator. It helps in enhancing their social and interpersonal skills. The children were fascinated to listen to the story- ‘Thirsty crow’ and ‘छोटा सा मोटा सा लौटा’ with appropriate props, expressions, and voice modulation. Drama: The most important gains of using drama in education are; healthily achieving expression of feelings, and developing creative imagination in children. With this aim in mind warm up exercises like ‘Copy me’ and story like ‘Gummy Bear ’ and ‘The girl and the dog’ were done with children to enhance their verbal and non-verbal expression of ideas with appropriate expressions and voice modulation. Pottery The educator explained the basics of clay modeling. They created a smiley face using different shapes and a snail by forming it into a spiral basket using the clay. The students were delighted to see their creations. Children practiced the formation of the letters, ‘a, b and c’ with clay and playdough. EYP Play Area Children enjoyed free play with their friends in the EYP play area. It helped in the development of their gross motor skills, social-emotional well-being, and peer play skills. Montessori Montessori helps in building self-confidence and self-esteem in a child. Children practiced the life skills of ‘spooning’ and ‘dry pouring’ (Spooning beans from one bowl to another) using the Montessori apparatus. They also practiced tracing the formation of the letters 'a’, 'b’ & ‘c’ using sandpaper letter cards and identifying letters through the large moveable alphabet box. Imaginarium Children get hands-on experience of real-life activities. They participated in role-playing in the supermarket area and also explored various corners like the Lego table, mini gym, and small world play tables. Water Play ‘Splash, splash everywhere puddles of water here and there.’ Water play is an inevitable part of the preschool curriculum as it helps in gross motor development, and eye-hand coordination and also helps in vocabulary development. The little ones in the Nursery had a wonderful time during their water play activity. Bubbling with excitement and enthusiasm, in their colorful swimsuits, the children thoroughly enjoyed the fountain play activity, splashing water at their friends. Celebrations and EventsChildren along with learning enjoyed the spirit of special days. Baisakhi: Children were briefed about the importance of this harvest festival. Farmers wherein thank God for the abundant harvest and pray for future prosperity observe this day as a thanksgiving day. Sikhs and Punjabi Hindus celebrate it. The children enjoyed the session by dancing to the tune of Bhangra beats and doing a tear and pasting activity on a corn shape cutout. Earth Day: In an endeavour to encourage our young learners, to understand and know the facts about our planet Earth, a briefing session was arranged. They also discussed about the 3Rs -Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Children made paper pouches by using old newspapers and decorating them with their handprints. Eid: May Allah accept your good deeds, forgive your transgressions and ease the suffering of all the people around the globe. With this prayer in the heart and mind, a special assembly was presented by students of KG- A on the occasion of Eid- Ul -Fitr. This festival comes after the holy month of Ramadan. Our Kindergarten students apprised their friends of the spirit of the festival wherein people spread happiness, peace, and forgiveness amongst each other. Elders give Eidi to ones younger than them. The event concluded with a mesmerizing dance performance on the song, ‘छोटी मोटी गलती माफ़ करो’ by the students followed by the National Anthem. Mothers day: The children learnt about and celebrated the festival of Mothers day through a special assembly put together by the students of Kg B. They also created a special craft to take back home as a mothers day gift.
