Dazzling DecemberDear Parent(s) Greetings! The month of December was an exciting one for all of us, both children and teachers alike. This festive month inspired our tiny tots with the spirit of sharing and caring. Children learnt so much from the attitude of gratitude by making this month full of joy and charity. Let’s take a sneak peek into the days gone by..... Theme of the Month- Homes One subject most kids enjoy learning about is, ‘Animals’. Our world is filled with a variety of animals and birds and it is important for children to know as much as possible about them. Knowledge about the animal kingdom and their homes helped kids to explore the world of animals. They were exposed to different types of animals like wild, pet, farm through books, picture cards, videos, soft toys etc. They were acquainted with their characteristics along with the importance of homes of these animals. Make learning fun for kids is what we always aim at Suncity,Thus children were encouraged to participate in pretend play of animals. They used objects, actions or ideas using their own imagination to form a story using animal soft toys. They were also made aware about different types of insects and their attributes. Children were very much excited to know that insects have only 3 body parts and 6 legs. Naturalistic Intelligence Childhood is a time to learn many things. Children were sensitised about the importance of maintaining good hygiene around animals. They were also encouraged to show kindness, loyalty and empathy, as well as how to be responsible for an animal’s welfare. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence- English Writing standards define the knowledge and skills needed for writing proficiency. Children were engaged in all aspects of language arts as they developed their oral language skills and began to read and write. They were introduced to the writing process through various writing activities like air tracing, sand pit tracing, tracing free hand on their tables etc. They learnt to recognise and write the letters from ‘a to r’ in the notebook and also understood the sounds that these letters make. Reading is always a fun and imaginative time for children, which opens doors to all kinds of new worlds for them. Children were made aware that letters can be arranged into words and have a meaning too. They were taught to read and write from left-to-right and from top-to-bottom. Our little master minds were introduced to the middle sound of vowel ‘i’ and ‘o’ words. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence- Hindi Hindi is an important language to learn, for children of Indian origin but also all children who want the advantage of knowing one of the most spoken languages in the world. They learnt new vyanjans म, य, र, ल along with its related vocabulary words through flash cards and stories. They also enjoyed singing vyanjan song. Logical Math Intelligence Number sense, or the basics of learning about numbers, is the first vital math skill a child must develop. They learnt to represent numbers with objects with the help of the concept of quantification. They were introduced to numbers from 25 to 28 along with the concept of place value using real objects. Children also gained knowledge and practiced to write numbers from 3 to 10 with correct formation in their notebook. Bodily Kinesthetic Intelligence Gymnastics The enhancement of physical and mental development of children is certainly the most important contribution of sports for children. Our children performed different body movements for better coordination and balance like:
Skating Skating is a great way for kids to stay active, learn new skills, and have fun. Children were encouraged to roll on their skates through step-by-step instructions in pleasant and supervised surroundings that make learning safe and easy. They gained an understanding to balance them while walking with skates. Musical Intelligence Fun, Fabulous, Uplifting, Magical. These are just few words that describe music together. Our music classes for kids provide a fun, comfortable environment for children and strengthen their memory Indian Music (Sangeet for all) It is always fun learning music through instruments like “Shaker”. Children enjoyed while exploring something new and learnt when to play and when to stop playing shaker. This basic activity enhanced the listening skills of our children and the ability to follow simple directions. They enjoyed singing ‘sa re ga’ and songs like ‘one potato two potato. Western Music “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”------ Plato Along with ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘Feliz Navidad’, children’s most requested song is Rudolf, the Red Nosed Reindeer! Kids love Christmas and giving them the right soundtrack for Christmas really helped to ignite the holiday spirit by making them even more excited for the season. It was indeed fun for them singing Christmas carols in their music sessions. Interpersonal Intelligence We begin communicating from the moment we are born; letting our mothers know we have arrived with our first cry. As a child develops, it is important we nurture their communication skills so they are capable of expressing themselves, clearly and confidently, in all aspects and areas of their life. Thus, we conducted ‘show and tell’ activity for the little ones during the birthday celebrations. Birthday Celebrations: Soaking in the spirit of Christmas tiny tots of Early Years celebrated their birthdays in the festive month of the year. They were delighted to share their thoughts by saying few lines on Christmas. Co scholastic Domains: Audio Visual We at Suncity provide an environment which helps in developing the child’s ability to learn, communicate, trust and love and develop confidence. Children enjoyed watching the following videos related to our theme “Homes”..
Drama Our little actors loved the time spent in the drama class. They experienced and learnt about different emotions and expressions of sad, angry, happy and excited through fun activities such as role play of stories under proper guidance of their drama teacher. Children showed great interest while listening to the stories narrated by the drama sir like “God’s blessings”, “The poet and the rich man” and “Birbal and the elephant”. Library Excellent reading habits begin in the early years. Introducing children to literature supports their readiness, promotes early literacy and supports a love of language. Our little explorers always seek immense pleasure while exploring books in the library which fosters critical and creative thinking skills. They were narrated the stories like “Dom’s Dragon” and “The Dragon and The Phoenix”. Montessori CVC words are integral to any pre-reading program and they have a special importance in the Montessori Method, as they are the first step from knowing the letter sounds to sounding out simple words. Children practiced reading the middle sound vowel of ‘a’ , ‘e’, ‘i’ and ‘o’ with the help of pink scheme (CVC booklet). They practiced the concept of ‘tens and ones’ with the help of golden beads and also practiced quantification using spindle box. Imaginarium Children love visiting Imaginarium and explore the different learning centres. These learning centres are exceptional wherein children experience hands on learning activities which are well planned and arranged for the tiny tots. The pet shop and kitchen area were the favourite zones for pretend play for them. Events: Project Uphaar- Joy of giving week (December 16 to December 20 2019.) As values of compassion, kindness and consideration should be embedded right from the childhood and to inculcate the spirit of sharing amongst the students we celebrated “The Joy of Giving Week” in the school wherein our little ones contributed food items, warm clothes, books etc . Christmas celebration and Secret Santa activity Christmas is now celebrated by people around the world. It’s a time when family and friends come together and remember the good things they have. People, and especially children, also eagerly await Christmas as it’s a time when one gives and receive presents. The secret Santa - Surprise Gift is something that children mainly look forward to. Children were excited to receive gift from their secret friends. Children took out chits and became his/her's Secret Santa by giving the gifts and making Christmas merrier. The school was beautifully decorated and everybody was dressed in red and white (Santa’s favourite colours). The students sang melodious carols and danced beautifully to wish their teachers and classmates. The boundless joy of celebrating the festival was visible on the faces of all the children after a grand entry of Santa in the classroom. Christmas Assembly Christmas is a time to give and forgive. It is Celebrated as a joyous affair everywhere, we too, at Suncity, celebrated Christmas as a happy time for our children. Thus, a special assembly was conducted wherein the children of Nursery showcased a skit based on the birth of Jesus on 24th December, 2019 in the School Gymnasium. The students enthusiastically participated and enacted the roles of Mother Mary, Father Joseph, the angels, shepherds, the wise men etc. The students spoke the dialogues confidently and clearly on stage.
