JOVIAL JULYDear parent, Warm greetings! We were thrilled to welcome our children back after the fun-filled summer vacations to yet another month of learning and growing. We want our children to feel confident, excited and eager to play, explore and learn. Each child possesses a unique blend of all the intelligences. We provide our children with the right stimuli and interventions to ensure the well-rounded development of multiple intelligences. Let’s take a sneak peek into the jovial month of July. Theme-Plants “Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.” — John Lubbock Keeping this in mind, we have taken PLANTS as the theme for the month of July. Children were made aware about living things and non-living things. They learnt about different types of plants. They were shown various parts of a plant and were told about their importance. They were explained about the needs of plants. They were also shown different kinds of seeds and were also explained about the process of germination . The process by which plants make their own food, i.e. photosynthesis was explained to them. Naturalistic Intelligence A nature walk is an excellent way to stimulate a child's appreciation for the natural world. Our children visited the school’s garden to observe different types of plants. They did hands on learning activity about the process of growing a plant with the help of the school gardener. Children also performed an experiment to understand the process of germination. It helped them to learn and practically see how seeds grow into small plants. They had an amazing time while planting the barley seeds in a small cup containing soil and watering it every day. They expressed their enthusiasm while observing the shoots coming out of the seeds. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence-English It is very important to enhance our children’s ability to use letters and words effectively both while speaking and easily understand the written work. Thus, children learnt letters from ‘f’ to ‘j' along with its related vocabulary words through stories and jolly phonics. They learnt the formation of these letters through the rainbow tracing and fun sheets. They also learnt few high frequency words like I, is, it, at my, we, and you as they contribute a great deal to the meaning of a sentence. Children thoroughly enjoyed making crafts related to these letters like ‘f’ for flower, ‘g’ for grapes, ‘h’ for horse and ‘i’ for insect. PS: Kindly read the letter by its sound and not its name. Logical/Mathematical Intelligence We want our children to be methodical and think in logical order. Children recapitulated numbers from 1-4. Identification as well as quantification of numbers 5 to 9 was done with the help of real objects like pencils, beads, pebbles and number cards. Oral counting from 1 to 30 was also done. Children were introduced to the concept of ‘more and less’. ‘Pentagon’ shape was introduced to children with the help of ‘Aakaar parivaar’ correlating it to number 5. Children were able to relate that a pentagon has 5 sides and 5 corners. Bodily Kinesthetic Intelligence During early childhood, movement is an important sensitivity for all children, as it is the vehicle to obtain experiences. It helps to enhance their gross motor, fine motor skills and the eye-hand coordination.
Musical Intelligence Music plays a very important part in child’s development. Exposure to music from early childhood onward helps children to speak clearly, develops a larger vocabulary and strengthens social and emotional skills.
Interpersonal Intelligence Helping children develop the full range of interpersonal skills is one of the most important things we can do to ensure they grow up to have healthy relationships with others. To that end we specially celebrate birthdays and help in making each child feel special. Birthday celebration Birthdays are special day and every child looks forward to their special day. the students are always excited to celebrate their birthday in school with their teachers and schoolmates. Keeping up the spirit, birthday of children born in July was celebrated in the class. Visual Spatial Intelligence Children developed their fine motor skills and increased their finger dexterity by making crafts of letters from ‘f’ to ‘j’. They also enhanced their aesthetic skills by doing leaf printing and created their own tree correlating with the theme of the month- Plants. Children also made a घर which was integrated with vyanjan introduced that week. They loved doing tearing and pasting and created a flower through it. Co scholastic Domains AV The educator talked about vyanjans and showed the children videos related to it. Clips related to the needs of plants, germination and photosynthesis were also shown in order to give more clarity about the processes. Children were also shown letter related stories –Two friends and the frogs, Horse from the hills, Incy and insects and Jacky jumps with joy. Drama Drama is an excellent way to bring lessons to life and can also offer children of all abilities a chance to engage in fun activities, whilst learning at the same time. Drama can greatly increase a child’s confidence, listening skills, evaluation skills and group working skills. Students learnt about sound, character and facial expressions through stories like ‘King and the Parrots’, ‘Dhobi’s Donkey’, ‘Bullock and the Lion’ and ‘The Foolish monkey and the King’. Library Excellent reading habits begin in the early years. Thus, children had their first visit to the school’s library. They were told about the general rules and regulations of a library and were also made aware about the proper way of holding a book and flipping pages. The children were very happy while exploring various picture books. Montessori Children learnt how to spread and roll the table cloth. They also did sand paper tracing of letters from ‘f’ to ‘j’. Teacher facilitated children for the activity on spindle box for counting of numbers from 1 to 9. Pottery Pottery enriches children's lives in ways ranging from boosting their self-esteem to improving their motor skills. Clay can captivate a child's interest for hours and it has a calming effect. Our children used their creativity to create a कबूतर, glass (कुल्हड़) and गदा with clay. Storytelling Story telling sparks a child's imagination and stimulate curiosity. It also helps in developing child's social skills and communication skills. Thus, we started with a story telling slot where-in Ms. Esha Malhotra narrated various stories like ‘Gruffalo’, ‘Gruffalo’s child’, ‘Lalli and Kali’ and ‘Elephant learns to share’. Tabkids Children were delighted to play new activities like Jigsaw puzzle, tracing numbers from 1-5, tracing letters from ‘f’ to ‘i’ and tracing pattern lines on their respective tabs using index fingers. Events and Celebrations Health Camp The first health camp of the year was organized in school premises wherein the vitals of children were taken and children were examined by a team of doctors. The medical check-up report was uploaded for the parents to read through. Summer Fruit Festival A summer fruit festival was organised to expand the vocabulary and awareness of children about summer fruits. Each classroom displayed a summer fruit and products made from it. Children visited all the EYP classrooms and tasted an array of fruit products. EYP Assemblies
We look forward to your feedback and comments on our month-long effort to make school learning happy and productive.
